Discover the fascinating stories of the early prospectors in pursuit of gold. Admire magnificent turn of the century architecture. Experience the city’s buzzing hotels, restaurants and bars. Or enjoy the peaceful and picturesque Hammond Park, Karlkurla Bushland Park or Kalgoorlie Arboretum.

Mining is the largest industry in the region and its presence is evident wherever you go. Today, gold is Australia’s third biggest export commodity and you can gain some insights into the region’s modern gold mining operations by taking a tour of the incredible super-sized Super Pit.

For those who enjoy a touch of adventure in the outback, the Golden Quest Discovery Trail, a 965 kilometre interpretive trail in one of the world’s most famous gold-producing regions, is an ideal opportunity to see the real Australia. This terrific trail runs from Coolgardie in the south to Laverton in the north and passes many historic gold rush attractions and sacred Indigenous sites. Since it opened in 2003, the trail has become one of the most popular tourist and four wheel drive attractions in the Goldfields.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder is linked to Australia by air through Qantas and Skywest Airlines, by rail on the Indian Pacific and Prospector. It is also linked to Esperance and the south coast via the TransWA coach service. Local tours are also available.
