The Kalgoorlie Goldfields offers a host of things to do. Stay for a day, a weekend or a fortnight and you wont be disappointed."

The Kalgoorlie Goldfields, one of the largest and most diverse tourism regions in Western Australia, is fast becoming one of Australias most popular self drive holiday destinations. It offers a unique holiday experience. There is no end to the attractions in the region... The exploits of the early prospectors in pursuit of gold, magnificent turn of the century architecture throughout the region, the amazing Super Pit and the City nightlife with hotels, restaurants and bars... or the quiet contemplation of the picturesque Hammond Park, Karlkurla Bushland Park or Kalgoorlie Arboretum.

The Goldfields offers an experience for all ages and interests. Mining exemplifies this contrast. It is the largest industry in the region and its presence is evident wherever you go. Gold is Australias third biggest export commodity worth $4.9 billion in 2002. Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with a population of more than 30,000, is the regions hub and is a bustling and expanding City where the past is always on show - from the public buildings, the pubs, the cemeteries, the houses in the suburbs to the fascinating tourist attractions. Together they provide a checkerboard of more than a centurys history of this gold mining town.

For those who enjoy a touch of adventure in the outback, the fabulous Golden Quest Discovery Trail, a 965km interpretive trail in one of the worlds most famous gold-producing regions, is an ideal opportunity to see the real Australia. This terrific trail runs from Coolgardie in the south to Laverton in the north and passes many sites that are special to indigenous and non-indigenous people, as well as many linked to the early gold rush days. The trail has become one of the most popular tourist and four-wheel drive attractions in the Goldfields since it opened in 2003.

The region is linked to Australia by air through Qantas and Skywest; by rail on the Indian Pacific and Prospector; and by coach on Greyhound and the Perth-Goldfields Express and local tours are available.
