The Eastern Goldfields Historical Society proudly presents a free public lecture:
"Uncovering the Golden Mile - the discovery of Kalgoorlie-Boulder"
by Scott Wilson, EGHS President
The names Hannan, Flanagan, and Shea are inexorably linked to the discovery of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in 1893 . But what of the two men who went on to peg 19 leases that year - including the Great Boulder, from which Boulder got its name – Sam Pearce and Will Brookman?
And what of the other key players who helped to open up
the Golden Mile, ‘The Richest Square Mile on Earth’
Commemorating the 125th anniversary of the discovery of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Prospector and EGHS Life Member, Scott Wilson will present newly uncovered information, informative slides and images from the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society’s collections to tell the story of the discovery of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in 1893.
The evening will also feature the Goldfields launch of the book Exploration Eastwards 1860-1869 by the Western Australian Explorers Diaries Project (Hesperian Press, with Eastern Goldfields Historical Society) featuring the diaries of HM Lefroy and CC Hunt amongst many other explorers of the Eastern Goldfields.
