Hammond Park
Hammond Park is the jewel of the City's parks and reserves, a lush green oasis in the middle of the outback, housing a diverse range of activities to suit the whole family. It is accessed by a large number of people throughout the year. Hammond Park houses a native bird and animal collection that can be seen by those visiting the park and a variety of fish and birds using the pond area. Enjoy the walk through the park to the animal sanctuary, where you can get up close and personal to kangaroos, emus and peacocks.
Hammond Park is also home to the City's impressive miniature Bavarian Castle that is said to have 40,000 gemstones decorating the facade. A large number of groups and organistions utilise the park for functions, parties, bbq's, christenings, weddings and community days. It is a popular venue for family groups and children. There are two separate bbq areas with sheltered seating for hire and a large gazebo area.
Keep the children entertained in the playground whilst preparing lunch on the barbeque. Enjoy a relaxing picnic under the trees or sit in the heritage listed rotunda. This beautiful structure is over 100 years old and is one of the largest in Australia. Other facilities include wheelchair access to the playground & wheel chair play equipment, toilets and drink fountain.
