Building on the conversations and insights generated through Shelter WA's Homelessness Week 2026 workshop series, Shelter WA is bringing together homelessness sector leaders, frontline workers, peer workers, People with Lived Experience, and others working across housing and homelessness services in the Goldfields region to explore the future of homelessness practice in Western Australia.

The homelessness sector is facing growing demand, more complex challenges, and increasing pressure on workers and services. We want to hear from the people who see these realities every day and those who have experienced the system first hand.

This workshop will provide a space to share ideas and insights about what is working, what needs to change, and what support people need to deliver and access better homelessness services.

Together, we will:

  • Explore the changing needs, challenges and pressures facing the homelessness sector.
  • Discuss what workers, peer staff, leaders and people with lived experience need to feel supported, valued and effective in their roles.
  • Examine workforce wellbeing, organisational resilience and the conditions needed to build a sustainable and future-ready sector.
  • Consider how lived experience and peer expertise can strengthen service delivery, governance, policy and system design.
  • Share ideas for improving collaboration, advocacy, service integration, commissioning, policy reform and sector development.
  • Identify practical opportunities to improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity across regional Western Australia.

Insights generated through this workshop will help inform future advocacy, workforce development, policy reform and service improvement initiatives, supporting a stronger homelessness sector and better outcomes for Western Australians experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness.
