We have developed the Lead Local series of workshops because, here at Regional Development Australia Goldfields Esperance, we believe that building community capacity and developing the skills of our leaders is crucial to the social and economic development of our region.
For our fourth Lead Local workshop, we have teamed up with regionally based consultant Simone Pickering, from The People & Culture Office, to deliver a no-fluff, real-world workshop focused on the people side of our regional organisations.
The Cupcake Theory: Why People Don’t Stay for the Icing
Perks are like icing — they make your workplace look great on the surface. But if the cake underneath is dry, no amount of frosting can hide it.
This workshop takes a deliciously practical look at what really drives engagement and retention. You’ll explore how to move beyond surface-level perks and bake a workplace culture full of the right ingredients: trust, communication, leadership consistency, and genuine care.
We’ll unpack what makes people stay — not the sugar hits, but the substance — using insights from motivation science, employee experience research, and The People & Culture Office’s signature Cupcake Theory.
You’ll leave with a fresh perspective (and maybe a sugar high) plus practical actions to strengthen your people foundations.
Because people don’t stay for the icing — they stay for the cake.
(And yes, there might even be cake 😉)
As places are limited, RSVPs are essential so please book your ticket today!
