In October 2025 during Regional Country Week Soccer in Perth, Yianni lost coordination in his legs and hands. Never in a million years did we think he would be diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves). It occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks myelin—the protective, fatty sheath that insulates nerve fibers—resulting in inflammation, damage, and scarring (plaques or lesions). This damage disrupts the electrical signals traveling to and from the brain, impairing the body's communication with itself. Yianni is one of three known teenage boys being treated in WA.
Our Family's Fight Against MS Fundraiser is this Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Oasis Playing Fields. Donations are welcome via the QR Code. All money raised will be going to MSWA.
