Arts and Culture in Kalgoorlie Boulder

When you think of arts and culture in Australia; where do you think of? Melbourne, Hobart or maybe Sydney? Well there's been a bubbling arts scene here for many years, and in 2017 that has boiled over into a full-blown phenomenon!

Perhaps the most noticeable change is the recent Heartwalk project. This amazing arts campaign saw 29 local, national and international artists descend on Kalgoorlie Boulder to add a splash of colour and creativity to closed up shop fronts and the sides of iconic buildings. In May this year, Kalgoorlie literally burst into colour. You can download a map of the public art trail here or visit us for a hard copy in the Visitor Centre.

A long-standing celebration of the arts is the Heart of Gold Festival, which comes to Kalgoorlie every May. Heart of Gold is a week-long annual celebration of arts and culture in the Goldfields highlighting the huge variety of events taking place in our community every day. It offers a diverse program of quality performing and visual arts, workshop, exhibitions and theatre. The festival brings Kalgoorlie-Boulder community together through community engagement projects that reflect and celebrate our local arts identity. The festival runs from 21 – 28 May 2017. Visit our events section on the website to download the full programme once it becomes available, or pop in to see us at the Visitor Centre for a hard copy. We are also offering a special two for 1 deal on our Audio Walking Tour throughout the Heart of Gold festivities.

There are also a number of amazing art galleries in Kalgoorlie Boulder, including Fossick Handmade, Aboriginal Art Gallery, Black Crow Studios, Bush Blossom Gallery and Chunky Timbers. There is also the wonderful Goldfields Arts Centre, which plays host to a range of shows, concerts and exhibitions all year round.

Alongside the art exhibitions and events showcased in Kalgoorlie Boulder, there is also a thriving amateur dramatics scene. The Goldfields Repertory Club and Stage Left Theatre Troupe both have an active membership and a history of well-directed and performed productions which have gained both state and national recognition.
