About Red Shoes:
The Red Shoes project was started by architect and visual artist Elina Chauvet, born in Casas Grandes Chihuahua – one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico.
She first put together Los Zaptos Rojos Instalación de Arte Publico in Ciudad Juárez in 2009 with 33 pairs of shoes donated by the community when her 32-year-old sister was murdered by her husband. Red Shoes Australia inspired by the original art installation #zapatosrojos by Elina Chauvet.
We thank Dr Paola Magni-Partridge, Australian ambassador for the Red Shoes Project and the support of PR Collaborative.
Museum of the Goldfields & Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre are hosting Red Shoes Australia’s first ever regional installation as part of WA’s Annual 16 days in WA: Stop Violence Against Women Campaign.
Each pair of shoes displayed will represent the physical absence of a woman lost due to domestic violence.
